Gül Derman (1942-1994)

Gül Derman was born in Ankara in 1942. She graduated from Arnavutköy American Girls’ College in 1962. In 1971, she received her bachelor’s degree from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (Mimar Sinan University), Painting Department, from the workshop of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. She completed her doctoral studies at Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Art History in 1982.

Between 1970-1975 and in 1980, she attended the Engraving and Lithography Departments at the Salzburg Summer Academy under the direction of Prof. Otte Eglau and Prof. Werner Otte, with a scholarship from the Austrian Government Ministry of Culture.

In 1977, she worked as a guest artist in the Printing Department at Rochester Institute of Technology. Between 1981-1993, she worked as a guest artist at the Salzburg Lithography Workshop six times. From 1982 to 1993, she created serigraphy works at Çamlıca Art House.

She was a member of the Painting and Sculpture Museums Association, the United Painters and Sculptors Association, and the Painters Association.

Gül Derman passed away in 1994, leaving behind a rich legacy of paintings, lithographs, and prints that capture the essence of Turkish culture and landscape through a modernist lens.

Gül Derman 1942 yılında Ankara’da doğdu. 1962’de Arnavutköy Amerikan Kız Koleji’nden mezun oldu. 1971’de İstanbul Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi (Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi) Resim Bölümü Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Atölyesi’nden lisans diploması aldı. 1982’de İstanbul Üniversitesi, Edebiyat Fakültesi, Sanat Tarihi Bölümü’nde yaptığı doktora çalışmasını tamamladı.

1970-1975 ve 1980’de Avusturya hükümeti Kültür Bakanlığı bursu ile Salzburg Yaz Akademisi’nde Prof. Otte Eglau ve Prof. Werner Otte yönetimindeki Gravür ve Litografi Bölümlerine devam etti.

1977’de Rochester Institute of Technology Baskı Bölümü’nde ve 1981-1993 yılları arasında altı kez Salzburg Taş Baskı Atölyesi’nde misafir sanatçı olarak taş baskı çalışmalarında bulundu. 1982-1993 yılları arası Çamlıca Sanat Evi’nde serigrafi çalışmaları yaptı.

Resim ve Heykel Müzeleri Derneği, Birleşmiş Ressamlar Heykeltraşlar Derneği ve Ressamlar Derneği üyesiydi.

Gül Derman 1994 yılında vefat etti. Geride Türk kültürünü ve manzarasını modernist bir bakış açısıyla yakalayan zengin bir resim, litografi ve baskı mirası bıraktı.
